Yesterday, I conducted a home resettlement for one of our beneficiaries, Waiswa Juma, a 14-year-old boy and the son of Mr. Okoth John. Waiswa resides in Nondwe, Kasozi parish, Makuttu Sub-County, Bugwere district. The mission was successful, as I was able to find the stepmother at home, who provided valuable assistance in locating the boy's father. During my conversation with the father, he revealed that he had spent seven years in prison, leaving his wife to care for their 14 children. Unfortunately, upon his release, he discovered that his wife had already left, leading to the loss of everything he had. One of the children, Waiswa Juma, had left home under uncertain circumstances. Despite the father's efforts to enroll him in school multiple times, the young boy resisted studying and eventually opted to work at a milling machine in a nearby trading center. However, he did not receive adequate support beyond basic food provisions. Eventually, Waiswa Juma decided to leave for the town, causing concern for his father. As part of my responsibilities, I counseled the father about his role as a parent and the importance of maintaining a healthy balance between providing necessary guidance and avoiding excessive indulgence that could potentially spoil the child. It is vital for parents to recognize their responsibilities and actively engage in their children's upbringing, offering both support and discipline. By striking a proper balance, parents can foster a positive environment for their children's growth and development. In this case, it is crucial for Waiswa Juma's father to play an active role in guiding his son's life choices and ensuring a better future for him.
