Activities

Jinja Connection is dedicated to rehabilitating children living on the streets, guiding them towards a healthy family mindset. Our carefully crafted activities are designed to facilitate this transformation. Discover the various initiatives we employ to help these resilient children shift from street life to a nurturing and supportive environment. Together, we can make a lasting impact and provide these children with the love and care they deserve.

Street Walk

Twice a week, Jinja Connection staff walk through Jinja's streets to connect with street-connected children. Their goal is twofold: to invite children to join the rehabilitation program and to reach out to newly displaced children, offering them hope and support. These regular outreach efforts aim to break the cycle of street life by providing access to care, guidance, and opportunities for a better future.

Personal Hygiene

At Jinja Connection, our mission goes beyond helping children living on the streets—we aim to instill personal responsibility and empower them to take control of their lives.

Each morning, as children arrive at the center, we begin with a group clean-up that sets a positive tone for the day. Through guidance and support, we teach them essential hygiene habits like bathing, brushing teeth, and doing laundry—simple yet powerful steps that build self-care and confidence.

This routine helps them develop vital life skills, discipline, and a sense of independence. By nurturing personal responsibility, we support their holistic growth and open the door to a brighter, more hopeful future.

Morning Devotion

At Jinja Connection, discipleship is woven into every part of our programs to encourage moral and spiritual growth among street-connected children. Each morning, they gather to explore the Word of God, guided by a caring staff member.

These sessions create a space where children share experiences, ask questions about faith and life, and build deeper connections with the staff. It's a time of openness, curiosity, and transformation.

By integrating discipleship into daily activities, we go beyond meeting physical needs—nurturing the hearts and minds of the children. These moments of spiritual guidance leave a lasting impact, fostering growth and lasting change in their lives.

Nutrition

Jinja Connection extends heartfelt thanks to our dedicated partners whose support makes it possible to provide meals for the children in our programs. Their commitment helps us meet one of the most essential needs—nutrition.

Our feeding program is central to our mission, offering breakfast, lunch, and healthy snacks to children facing the challenges of street life. These meals not only sustain them but also support their growth, energy, and overall well-being.

We welcome every child with care and hope, aiming to one day reunite them with their families. Thanks to our partners, we’re able to nourish both body and spirit, offering these children a path to a healthier, brighter future.

Counselling

The counselling program at Jinja Connection is a vital part of our holistic support for street-connected children, delivered through two main approaches: Group and One-on-One counselling.

In Group sessions, children gather with a trained social worker in a safe, supportive environment to share their experiences. These sessions help them feel less alone and offer guidance through shared stories and staff support.

One-on-One counselling offers personalized care, allowing staff to understand each child’s unique background, challenges, and aspirations. This deeper engagement helps tailor support to individual needs.

For children who have faced trauma and hardship, counselling provides a crucial outlet for healing and growth. Our compassionate team builds trust and resilience, supporting their emotional well-being every step of the way.

At Jinja Connection, counselling is not optional—it’s essential. Through this program, we help restore hope, build confidence, and empower children to create a brighter future.

Education

At Jinja Connection, our Education Program is a key pillar in supporting children who have lived on the streets. We recognize their diverse educational backgrounds—some have attended school before, while others have never had the chance. Our program is tailored to meet each child’s needs and inspire a love for learning.

For those with prior schooling, we assess and build on their knowledge in areas like arithmetic, basic English, and life skills. For those new to formal education, we provide foundational learning that opens doors to new possibilities.

We also support vulnerable families by covering school fees—from primary education to vocational training—helping lift the financial burden and enabling long-term success.

More than academics, our Education Program is a source of hope. It equips children with skills, confidence, and the opportunity to rise above their circumstances and create brighter futures.

Games and Sports

At Jinja Connection, we recognize the powerful role games and sports play in transforming the lives of the children we serve. Our program includes a wide range of activities—from board games to field sports like soccer and tag rugby.

These activities do more than entertain. They promote physical fitness, develop motor skills, and encourage a healthy lifestyle. They also foster teamwork, communication, and cooperation, helping children build strong social bonds.

Games and sports challenge the children to think critically, solve problems, and build resilience—boosting their confidence both on and off the field.

By integrating these activities into our program, we support the physical, social, and emotional development of each child, helping them grow into confident, well-rounded individuals.

At Jinja Connection, sports and games are more than play—they’re a pathway to growth, healing, and belonging.

Gerdening Skills

We are fortunate to possess a spacious area dedicated to gardening, which serves a crucial purpose in the lives of children living on the streets and their families. By actively engaging these children in gardening, we foster a strong work ethic as an integral part of their rehabilitation process. Over time, this instills within them a positive attitude towards work, enabling them to become diligent and industrious individuals when they eventually find new homes and reintegrate into society. The benefits extend beyond their personal lives, as they contribute to the productivity and well-being of both their households and the wider community. Through this essential activity, we strive to empower these children with the necessary skills and mindset to become valuable, hardworking citizens.

   Staff Discipleship

The Staff Discipleship Program at Jinja Connection is a dedicated initiative aimed at deepening the spiritual growth of our staff through daily study of God’s word. We believe that by strengthening our understanding of Scripture, we are better equipped to disciple the children in our care with sincerity and depth.

This program also supports the personal spiritual development of our team as we share the mission and vision of Jinja Connection with the wider world. As we grow in faith, we become more effective in communicating the heart and impact of our ministry.

Through this discipleship, we nurture a team committed to ongoing spiritual growth and transformation—laying a strong foundation to guide, inspire, and serve others with purpose.

                     Reintegration

Reintegration into the family and community is a vital next step after rehabilitation, and Jinja Connection is deeply committed to supporting this process. We work closely with relevant authorities to ensure a smooth, thoughtful transition for both the child and their family.

As mediators, we help foster open communication and mutual understanding, creating a supportive environment that allows both sides to reconnect and adjust. Our role is to guide this transition with care, promoting healing and stability.

Reintegration is key to restoring family bonds and giving children a true sense of belonging. By helping families rebuild relationships, we create a foundation for long-term success and emotional well-being.

At Jinja Connection, we believe every child deserves a chance to grow up in a loving, supportive home—and we work to make that vision a reality through our reintegration efforts.

Monitoring and Follow - Up

Reintegration into family and community is a critical step after rehabilitation, and Jinja Connection plays an active role in ensuring this transition is smooth and effective. We work closely with authorities to mediate and support both the child and their family during this important phase.

By fostering open communication and understanding, we help rebuild trust and create a nurturing environment for reconnection. This process is essential in restoring family bonds and giving the child a stable, supportive home.

Our goal is to ensure that each child not only returns to a loving family but also finds a renewed sense of belonging in their community. Through dedicated reintegration efforts, Jinja Connection helps lay the groundwork for lasting healing, stability, and long-term success.

Community Senstization

Jinja Connection’s Community Sensitization Program is a vital initiative aimed at educating and empowering communities where street-connected children are reintegrated. The program equips caregivers with essential knowledge and raises awareness about harmful practices that often drive children to the streets.

Through workshops and community engagement, we address the root causes of child migration, focusing on prevention rather than just response. By fostering understanding and promoting child rights, we help build safer, more supportive environments for children to grow and thrive.

This program plays a key role in creating lasting change—encouraging communities to value, protect, and support their children. Jinja Connection believes that prevention is the most effective way to break the cycle of child migration and ensure every child has the opportunity to flourish in a nurturing home and community.

     Food Distribution

Jinja Connection’s Food Distribution Program supports highly vulnerable households—often led by children, the elderly, people with disabilities, and single mothers—by providing essential food supplies. This timely support helps prevent starvation and reduces the risk of children migrating to the streets out of desperation.

By addressing immediate nutritional needs, we help families stay together in a safe, stable environment. Access to food not only sustains physical health but also brings hope and resilience to struggling households.

This program plays a critical role in breaking cycles of vulnerability, protecting children, and fostering stronger communities. With continued support, we aim to ensure no child goes hungry or is forced onto the streets. Together, we can build a future where every household has the opportunity to thrive.

Working with Jinja Connection has really been a blessing, the experiences that the children go through will change your perception towards them, most importantly; I have seen God working through the staff to change the lives of the children that walk through our gates.
