About Jinja Connection
Jinja Connection is a Uganda-based, faith-driven organization dedicated to aiding, rehabilitating, and educating street-connected and vulnerable children in Jinja District. We provide holistic, transformative rehabilitation services including counseling, health and nutrition support, family reintegration, vocational training, and access to quality education.
Our mission is to aid, rehabilitate, and educate children on the streets of Jinja, Uganda. Our vision is for every child who attends our Programme to leave the streets, return home to family where possible, receive a proper education, and become a positive contributor to their community.
Purpose of the Role
The Social Worker plays a critical role in the holistic support of children, helping with outreach, counseling, reintegration, education follow-up, medical referrals, advocacy, and spiritual care. The role ensures the physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being of every child supported by Jinja Connection.
Key Responsibilities
The Social Worker will:

Conduct regular street walks and outreach to identify and engage street-connected children.

Carry out home tracing and assessments for reintegration of children with their families.
-
Facilitate resettlement and ensure sustainable reintegration of children into family and community life.

Provide individual and group counseling and psychosocial support to promote behavioral change and healing. • Visit schools to monitor children’s educational progress and coordinate reintegration into school programs.

Ensure children’s medical needs are met through prompt referral and follow-up with the assigned medical center.

Lead Bible studies, devotions, and spiritual mentorship sessions, integrating Christian values into daily Programme activities.

Organize and participate in community sensitization workshops, stakeholder meetings, and advocacy events focused on child protection and children’s rights.

Conduct home visits, monitoring and evaluation exercises to follow up on reintegrated children and vulnerable households.

Maintain accurate and confidential records of children’s files, outreach activities, home visits, counseling sessions, and progress reports.

Submit timely and high-quality reports to the Program Manager on all assigned social work activities.

Advocate proactively for children’s rights, especially in cases of child labour, exploitation, unlawful arrests, and other protection concerns.

Participate in food distribution and holistic family support initiatives for vulnerable households.

Support and participate in events organized by Jinja Connection for children, staff, and the community, including awareness days and outreach campaigns.

Conduct parents’, beneficiaries’, and stakeholder meetings when called upon.

Perform any additional duties assigned by the Country Director in line with the mission of the organization.
Qualifications, Experience, and Skills
Applicants must hold a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent in Social Work and Social Administration, Community Psychology, Child Development Studies, or a related field. A minimum of three years’ experience working with children and youth in a street-connected, vulnerable, or NGO context is required. Experience in case management, family tracing, reintegration, or child protection is highly desirable.
Candidates should demonstrate strong counseling skills, group facilitation abilities, and the capacity to work with traumatized children and families. Excellent organizational skills, recordkeeping, and report-writing abilities are essential. Applicants must possess good interpersonal and communication skills, including mediation and advocacy.
A demonstrated commitment to ethical standards, confidentiality, and safeguarding is required. The ability to work independently in field settings and as part of a team is essential, along with readiness for flexible hours and field travel. A faith-based commitment aligned with Jinja Connection’s mission and values is a strong asset, especially in leading spiritual support. Fluency in English and a local language such as Lusoga or Luganda is an advantage.

PURPOSE OF THE ROLE
The Teacher plays a vital role in helping children learn and grow—mentally, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. The position focuses on teaching foundational subjects, supporting learners with special educational needs, integrating Christian values in all lessons, and fostering a safe, nurturing, and inspiring learning environment.
MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching and Learning Support

Teach reading, writing, mathematics, life skills, and other core subjects appropriate to each child’s learning level.

Develop and implement individualized learning plans for children who require additional academic or behavioral support.

Monitor, assess, and record each child’s academic progress and classroom participation.

Use creative, participatory, and child-centered methods to make learning enjoyable and meaningful.

Keep accurate daily attendance and classroom activity records.

Integrate biblical values and Christian principles into all lessons.

Lead devotions and Bible study sessions appropriate to the children’s age and understanding.

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS

Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Education, Child Development, or a related field.

Minimum of 2 years of teaching experience, preferably with vulnerable or at-risk children in an NGO or community setting.

Experience supporting children with special learning needs or trauma backgrounds is highly valued.

Strong classroom management, creativity, and communication skills.
-
Proficient in English; knowledge of Lusoga or Luganda is an added advantage.
